In a November 1967 article called “The Invisible Sorority,” Philadelphia Magazine introduced readers to the city’s lesbian community, opening with a trip to Rusty’s: “You don’t hear the jukebox until you’re actually in the room. On the Quince Street side of the building, however, there was an entrance that led to a flight of stairs, then another set of doors, and finally to Rusty’s.
